The Farm:
Nestled within the Reserva Natural Cerro Dantali El Diablo, approximately 20 kilometers from Jinotega, lies La Bastilla Estate. This sprawling expanse of 311 hectares harmoniously combines coffee cultivation with pristine primary forests. Both farms on the estate have proudly held Rainforest Alliance certification since 2003, a testament to their long-term dedication to reviving coffee farming in a truly sustainable manner.
From the picking of coffee cherries to their meticulous processing, storage, and eventual export, La Bastilla Estate is a place of comprehensive operations. It's a living example of what can be achieved when coffee cultivation is guided by the principles of conservation, education, and sustainability. Not only have their actions rejuvenated the land, but they've also created opportunities for local youth. An educational initiative, originally designed to engage the community's young minds, evolved into a formal partnership with the Ministry of Education. Today, it provides schooling for over 200 children, guided by a team of six dedicated teachers.
